Welcome to Harmony Music Studio! If you’re here, it probably means you’re looking to start (or continue) learning to play an instrument. That’s awesome!
My name is Dustin Hawks, and I have been teaching private lessons and performing professionally for more than 10 years.
My philosophy of teaching revolves around three main ideas: Ensure proper, functional technique to maximize ability and prevent injury, engage students with interesting repertoire and a comfortable student-teacher relationship, and instill a deeper understanding of music through education in the concepts of harmony (the language of music — chords, scales, form and structure).
I’ve been involved with music for essentially my entire life. I studied guitar and piano at Colorado State University, and have since worked professionally as an accompanist, as well as playing in the orchestra for opera and other stage productions (just recently I got the opportunity to play the electric guitar for the Fort Collins Children’s Theater’s production of “Shrek! The Musical”, which was a blast!).
My own musical training is steeped in classical tradition, but I understand that not every student wants to play Bach (although I’m tutting dissaprovingly as I write that!). My number one goal with a student is to help foster and deepen a love of music. For some of us, that’s Smoke on the Water, and that’s no problem.
Finding a teacher for yourself or your child can be a difficult task – I encourage you to contact me at (970)310-8986 if you have any questions, or just to get to know me a little bit better.
